The Sault and wider Algoma region literary community (including our Sault, Michigan colleagues) has spoken! We have received approximately 50 positive responses to our ‘It’s Time’ posts and emails. On behalf of our AWC organizing group (Judy Penz Sheluk, Marianne Perry, Lisa Tucker, and Bryan), I shall send along more detailed ideas regarding how we see the AWC getting up to speed.

Consistent with our overarching ‘Collective’ philosophy, all good ideas about how the AWC can be best structured to serve its members’ interests are welcome. Here are some to stimulate thoughts:

  • An AWC portal where writing / creative world / publishing industry information can be accessed, circulated, and exchanged
  • Upcoming literary / broader creative community happenings
  • Setting up a dedicated web portal where all AWC members can have a personal page linking to their own websites, publications, other social media platforms, etc. (not for profit basis)
  • Building commercial / promotional opportunities for AWC members, including local sales events (e.g. Soo Market), and AWC books being available through local Booksellers (Stone’s Office Supply (Marnie Stone) and ‘The Totem Pole’ (Danielle Sims, 4th line & Great Northern Road) have been identified as strong prospective AWC partners here)
  • Working with local literary community institutions, notably individual book clubs, writers’ groups, SSM Public Library, Algoma University (especially the ‘Algomian’ Review), Sault College, and our regional school boards
  • AWC members’ involvement in the proposed May 2025 Sault ‘Fresh Eyes’ creative community project (also now available at our new ‘Fresh Eyes’ page posted on this Tagona Press site

Have a grand holiday season and I will be circulating more information before the New Year – exciting times ahead!
