This book is the first of a three (possibly more) book series about twins Markus and Ashley (Pippa) who move to the downtown area of their city Jamestown. The twins quickly meet their new neighbour Tawny who joins up with the family and show the twins around.
Life is very different living downtown where the soup kitchen is the center of their new community. Auntie Marie, the head cook calls all the children eating there her ‘soup kitchen kids’
Mom Jackie returns from a stay at a rehab centre to rejoin the family. The food bank and the local thrift store soon become the new normal for this family going through hard times.
The soup kitchen kids discover that family is not always someone related by blood but it is also being part of a larger caring and giving community and giving back is a part of it.
